Guest Houses Vs Hotels in Cameroon : What is the Difference?

Guest House vs. Hotel: What’s the Difference?

When you’re planning a trip, one of the most important decisions you’ll make is where to stay. There are many different types of accommodation available, from budget-friendly hostels to luxurious resorts. Two popular options are guest houses and hotels. But what’s the difference between the two?

Guest Houses

Guest houses are typically smaller than hotels, with fewer rooms. They’re often run by families or individuals, and they offer a more personal and homey experience. Guest houses often have shared bathrooms, and they may not offer as many amenities as hotels. However, they’re often more affordable than hotels, and they can be a great way to experience local culture.

Hotels

Hotels are larger than guest houses, with more rooms and amenities. They’re often part of a chain, and they offer a more standardized experience. Hotels typically have private bathrooms, and they may offer a variety of amenities, such as a swimming pool, a fitness center, or a restaurant. Hotels are typically more expensive than guest houses, but they offer a more luxurious experience.

Here is a table that summarizes the key differences between guest houses and hotels in Cameroon:

Feature Guest House Hotel
Size Smaller Larger
Ownership Family-owned or individually owned Chain-owned
Atmosphere More homey and personal More standardized and luxurious
Amenities Fewer amenities More amenities
Price More affordable More expensive

Which is Right for You?

The best type of accommodation for you will depend on your individual needs and preferences. If you’re looking for a more affordable option with a more personal touch, then a guest house is a good choice. If you’re looking for a more luxurious experience with more amenities, then a hotel is a good choice.

Ultimately, the best way to decide which type of accommodation is right for you is to consider your budget, your needs, and your preferences. Once you’ve done your research, you’ll be able to find the perfect place to stay for your next trip.

Here are some additional factors to consider when choosing between a guest house and a hotel in Cameroon:

  • Location: Guest houses are often located in more central areas, while hotels may be located in more remote areas.
  • Privacy: Guest houses often have shared bathrooms, while hotels typically have private bathrooms.
  • Amenities: Guest houses may not have as many amenities as hotels, such as a swimming pool, a fitness center, or a restaurant.
  • Price: Guest houses are typically more affordable than hotels.

Despite the luxurious nature of a hotel, it has one major disadvantage : the absence of a kitchen. Hotels usually offer breakfast which is probably the reason they do not include kitchens in their rooms/suites. A guest house on the other hand is equipped with a kitchen to give you the experience of a house or home. You get to cook any delicious meals you desire without any hindrance. In our opinion, this is the main point that makes a guest house preferable than a hotel in Cameroon especially for vacation rentals.
